Indianapolis Colts Linebacker Edwin Jackson has tragically passed away after being hit by a drunk driver on Sunday, according to a report on BBC Sport.
The 26-year-old was standing on the roadside when he was hit by the car and did not survive the collision.
Another person was also killed in the incident along with Jackson and it is suspected that it was a drunk driver who caused the horrific deaths.
Jackson did not appear a single time this season in the NFL due to an injury but was a regular for the Colts in the 2016 season.
The Indiana State Police have revealed that Jackson was initially in a car with a passenger, before getting out onto the roadside due to feeling ill. The police go on to say that this is when they were struck by the drunk driver, who attempted to flee the scene but was caught shortly after.
The Colts said:
Edwin was loved by all. We admired his outgoing personality, competitive spirit and hard-working mentality.
He was well-respected among all with whom he crossed paths, and he will be greatly missed in our locker room.
The 37-year-old driver was allegedly intoxicated and driving without a license as the world of NFL mourns the death of a very good player.
